Confirmation of Ngā Pūriri Pūmau o Te Waimate me Taiāmai
On 14 July 2025, the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations confirmed Ngā Pūriri Pūmau o Te Waimate me Taiāmai as a hapū grouping comprising of Te Whiu-Wahineiti*, Ngāi Tawake ki te Tuawhenua, Ngare Hauata, Te Uri Taniwha, Ngāti Hineira, Ngāti Korohue, Te Whānau Whero – Te Ahuahu, Ngāti Rangi – Ngāwhā, Te Whānau Wai, Te Matarahurahu, Ngāti Mau and Ngā Kiriahi.
Ngā Pūriri Pūmau o Te Waimate me Taiāmai are now developing a mandate strategy, which sets out how the claimant community chooses a representative entity and gives them authority to enter into negotiations with the Crown on their behalf.

*The “-“ in the names of hapū are indicative of location e.g., Ngāti Rangi at Ngāwhā. The exception is Te Whiu – Wahineiti, in which case the “-“ indicates that the two hapū are grouped together as one.
