Our values

The Office of Treaty Settlements and Takutai Moana: Te Tari Whakatau is led by three core values.

Our values guide us. They are woven into our DNA, shape our behaviour, and underpin everything we do at Te Tari Whakatau. They help us connect to each other and to develop a sense of empowerment and belonging across our organisation.

We developed our values in 2019 when we were Te Arawhiti – they remain as strong now as they were then.

Mahi tahi, Pono ki te kaupapa, Atawhaitia – Working together, in good faith, with humility and authenticity

Mahi Tahi - Working together

  • We will engage with purpose.
  • We will work as one and make sure we have strong relationships – with each other, with Māori, with Ministers and across the public sector.
  • We will listen and learn to expand our understanding and lift our capability.
Manaakitanga and whanaungatanga will be evident in everything that we do.

Pono ki te kaupapa - In good faith

  • We are committed to our purpose and direction.
  • We will learn from the past.
  • We will look to the future with optimism.
  • We will act in good faith.
  • We will look hard to always produce high quality work and achieve great results.

Atawhaitia - With humility and authenticity

  • We aspire to everything with humility, authenticity, generosity and kindness.
