Confirmation of Ngā Hapū o te Takutai Moana  

On 18 September 2025, the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations confirmed Ngā Hapū o te Takutai Moana (NHTM) as a hapū grouping comprising of Ngāti Rēhia, Ngāti Rāhiri, Ngāti Kawa and Te Ngare Hauata.  

NHTM are now developing a mandate strategy, which sets out the process by which the claimant community will choose whether to confer a mandate for NHTM to represent them in Treaty settlement negotiations with the Crown.
